Side Hustle

I know, I know. Sounds like something illegal, but I'm not talking about anything like that. Whether you have a 9 to 5 job, own a business, or are a domestic diva, I believe everyone should have a source of additional income or as I like to say -side hustle-. Below, I have listed a few -side hustle- ideas that have made people a good amount of extra income. Hope you find something you like:

Affiliate Marketing
This is probably one of the best ways to make extra money online. Affiliate Marketing allows you to sell certain products from your website on commission usually via advertisement or referral. It's an excellent way to make extra money, even in your sleep! Some great affiliate programs are right in from of you, you just have to look. Here are some of my suggestions:
BBWO: Black Business Women Online
TheCEOMamma Marketing Blog
Magnetic Sponsoring
HostGator
Vistaprint.com

Read Emails
Now, you won't make thousands of dollars doing this, but it is a good option to make an extra few hundred dollars a month. Here is a company you can sign up with:
Read emails

Social Networks
Yes! You can get paid to socialize with people. I know we have facebook, twitter, and myspace but these social networks actually pay you for visiting the site, getting friends, and even clicking on advertisements. Of course you want to choose the best one. From my research here are two that I thought were the best:
Crazygood.com
Swom.com

These are all great ways to create additional income for yourself. If you need help deciding which one would be the best, or need more information, contact me. BUT you should do something. If you would like to work with me and my team as your -side hustle- contact us today! garrisonprosperitysolutions@gmail.com .

If you already have a -side hustle-, please comment to this post and share it with us! You never know who could be interested.

How to Not Get Overwhelmed in Business

Yeah I said it. OVERWHELMED! Let's face it, we all deal with this at some point in our lives. Being overwhelmed or feeling overwhelmed. There are so many factors of building a business that can be overwhelming or seem like too much to handle. Here are 3 ways to keep yourself from being overwhelmed or get out of your overwhelm-ing-ness
Step 1- FOCUS
Step 2- FOCUS
Step 3- did I say, FOCUS?

Last week, my husband decided to purchase a new couch for our living room. We are moving into a new house soon but I didn't expect him to start buying furniture anytime soon! Anyhow, he starts sending me pictures of all of these couches and living room sets that he liked and thought I'd like and I almost threw my phone across the room! I appreciate him trying to take initiative, use his time off wisely, and make a purchase for our family, but the thought and process of choosing a couch set via text message pictures made me really overwhelmed and I couldn't handle it! There were so many pictures coming in, I had students in front of me (I'm a teacher by hobby :)), and I just couldn't FOCUS on what he was asking me. Eventually, I just asked him to find out what the return policy was, what their weekend hours were, and asked him to choose one he liked (If I don't like it, I can return it later).

Compare this to your business. If you are always looking at what others are doing, have so many business ideas that you start and stop on, then you are not FOCUSed. There's no way you could be successful with so many OTHER things going on. You need to chose. In my book, The Motivator (coming this summer!), I share that you should write down the actual hours you are going to work your business during the week and stick to them! Having a set amount of daily working hours will help you to not get so overwhelmed.

I mentioned earlier, "looking at what others are doing": If you were privileged enough to experience the twitter party this weekend, you saw or read information about so many different business people. Which was so cool to see. (Hat's off to LaShanda Henry of Black Business Women Online...mybbwo.com) However, if you are not FOCUSed in your business, still trying to figure out what services you're going to offer, then that might have been a little overwhelming for you. You were probably the one looking at everyone's website, getting ideas of what you want to do, then seeing someone else's website and seeing something ELSE you want to do, and eventually having too many ideas to choose from (don't get me wrong, it is always nice to check out other peoples websites to support them and refer people to them, but stay focused on what you are trying to do)!

Here are some things you need to do, in order to find your niche in business: First, you need to take the B.A.T. (Business Aptitude Test: determines what type of business would best for your personality type). This test will help you decide what you would most enjoy doing, if you could FIRE YOUR BOSS tomorrow! Second, you need to find a business coach ( I know a great one offering a FREE introductory consultation that can help, ME!). A business coach can help you create a business plan and hold you accountable for sticking to the plans. Once you have these two steps done, you will be on your way to success.

Remember the old saying, "time is money". So you are losing out when you are wasting time and distracted by other peoples websites and services You are losing out when you are wasting time and doing things in your free time OTHER than working your business. You are losing out when you are not FOCUSED on your goals for building a successful business. Remember, "when you are not focused, you fail".

See you at the top!

This Job's For Anybody

A few months ago, I went to a business meeting and it was very interesting. The featured presenter was there answering questions from prospects and he was taking 7-8 minutes to answer each of them! He would even get off track and lose focus of the question he was answering. And as I sat there, a bit annoyed by his tangents, I realized that ANYBODY can build a business! This guy literally makes MILLIONS of DOLLARS a year and all he does is just talk to people. He goes off on random bits of information, and gets so excited it seems he can't even breath but yet HE'S SO SUCCESSFUL! So, the key is to be yourself. Yes, we should study our business and know the "ins and outs", etc. But just being yourself and allowing people to relate with you is a huge factor in building a successful business.

That's a big part of Internet Marketing as well. Although you're not meeting people face to face, they need to and want to like you before they decide to do business with you.  That's why it is important that you understand the concept of "branding" yourself. In a nutshell, you want people to be attracted to you. You should include photos on your website and offer training videos taped in your house so they can see you in your regular habitat. Give them ways to gain easy access to you. This makes people feel more comfortable with you and want to do business with you. Let's face it, we only have the friends we have today because something about them attracted us to them. Whether it was their personality or something they had to offer, that's the bottom line. Therefore, you have to do the same on your website to make people like you and want to do business with you! Market yourself on social network sites and leave your business cards with people you meet. Those simple things (to start) will help you get exposure to people that need your services.

How Health Brings Wealth

Have you ever thought of this concept? That maybe by having a healthy lifestyle you can actually make a substantial living? You could experience freedom and create your own retirement plan? You could be at home with your kids more and make decisions on whether you want to work or not? If you said "yes" to anything above, then there is a way to help you.

I have discovered a company that has not only laid the foundation for an opportunity
that would span the spectrum of wellness but actually has a great line of products. These products contain antioxident properties good for streghthening the immune system, supporting cartilage and joint function, promoting a healthy respitory system, and make you look good too!

But it’s not just this product that can benefit your health and life but it can also benefit your income. Offering a lucrative compensation plan, this company is second to none in helping others build a successful business. Whether it is part time or full time. The bottom line is your not selling a product; you’re building an empire.

I work with a team of dynamic individuals who have the passion, proof, and resources to build a team of successful business owners. All you have to do is, get started. Stop questioning yourself and procrastinating. Research shows that the main reason why most people do not start a business(or do things to better themselves) is due to fear of failure. Well , let me tell you now, there are going to be times in your life when you fail. It's inevitable, because we're human. The difference between you and others that fail SHOULD be that you get back up and try again. That’s evidence of a true and successful “go-getter”. If you don't believe me, read the biographies of "go getters" like Bill Gates, Warren Buffet, Robert Kiyosaki, and Carlos Slim Helu. So, if you’re ready to change your life-story then let us help you!

Don't Let Your Business Fizzle, Make It SIZZLE

So, today I'm going to briefly discuss the difference between business and sizzle cards. First, what are business cards? Usually business cards are bits of information with your name, business information, phone numbers to reach you and email address. EVERYONE should have a business card. EVEN IF you don't necessarily own a business. It's just an easier, classier, neater way to pass on your information when you meet someone.

The difference SIZZLE cards, although sometimes the same size as business cards, have an advertisement as opposed to just your information. They are often seen with dollar bill numbers and faces. For example: As you're walking down the street, you see a $100 bill and pick it up. You think you’ve hit the jackpot but instead it’s a card that reads: Tired of Living Paycheck to Paycheck? Earn $2000-$3000 Part Time! Call now for more information. 555-555-5555

See? There’s a hot, SIZZLING message that allows your prospects to make the choice to call or not and create their own jackpot. Now of course the point is to pass out or drop as many of these cards as you can because the odds of someone getting in touch with you then are much better then giving 5 o 10 out a day. Do your research. There are plenty of great Sizzle Card companies, that have good messages and quality cards to offer. So, today I’m going to create my own electronic SIZZLE card. These are great to post on different sites as well. Here's my ELECTRONiC sizzle card:

The Difference Between a Franchise and Network Marketing

What is the difference between a franchise and network marketing business model? I meet a lot of people who are not sure of the differences, but if you plan on becoming a business owner you should be knowledgeable of different business models.

Franchise
A franchise is the right or license granted by a company to an individual or group to market it's products or services in a specific territory (dictionary.com) In other words, you (franchisee) would be a third party owner of an already established company (franchiser). You would be given access to the trademarked goods, advertising and marketing methods, and services of a company. You would be given certain territories and continuous training to maintain the franchise. Some franchises need actual buildings or locations and products like a Starbucks or Subway. Others might just provide the material to get started like an interior design franchise that would give you all of your swatches. In exchange for these perks, you would pay a percentage of your gross income and fees to the company. The start up fees of a franchise can range from $8,000 to millions of dollars.

The advantages of owning a franchise is that the company will provide you with all the materials you need to get started. Including logo use, uniforms, and interior furniture and design. You also have support from the company to make your business successful.

The disadvantages of owning a franchise are that you have to be in a location or territory chosen by the franchiser. Therefore, you will work long hours concentrating on the success of your business. If you don't work, you do not make money. But for those who are passionate, it is worth it. You also have restrictions on how your business is operated and have to take inventory on all of the products brought into the store. There is training available, but you have to adhere closely to the policies. Another disadvantage is that you have to pay the franchiser a percentage of the stores sales. You do not get to keep all of the money you make.

Network Marketing
Also known as Multi-Level Marketing (MLM) is a business model in which an independent contractor is compensated for their personal sales and the sales of others they ask to join their team, creating a residual income (residual means continuous). A legit network marketing business is established to help advertise or MARKET a product. Instead of spending millions of dollars on advertising for television, radio, or through ads, a company offers the product to independent distributors or contractors that do the advertising for them. Therefore the millions of dollars that would have gone into the advertising would go directly to the sales force. As an independent contractor, you also get paid for building teams of people that are doing the same thing you are. Because you are marketing a product you usually have to purchase product monthly to have it on hand for your use and as samples. Start-up fees are very minimal ranging from free to $500.

The advantages of a network marketing business are that anyone can do it. Because the start-up fees are so minimal, anyone can learn to operate the business. You also receive everything you need to start including training. The training can help develop business knowledge and for some build self-confidence. As an independent contractor the only money or fees you are paying to the company is the product you order monthly. Otherwise you get to keep all of your earning income. Another advantage is that you do not have to have a location or territory. You can run your business from anywhere. You also have total control of your working hours. Most people start out running their business part-time, but once they see the fruits-of-their-labor, decide to go full time.

One disadvantage of owning a network marketing business is the turn-around time on seeing an income. Robert Kyosaki said "The reason most people do not reach the top is simply because they quit too soon". A lot of people assume they can start making money overnight but do not realize it takes time to build an empire. Another disadvantage of network marketing is the negative perception that the business model is a "pyramid scheme". A "pyramid scheme" is when someone invests in a company and sees no results: No product, no income, no training, and no owner. If you have found interest in a company that does not have easy access to the creators or has no clear policy on how you build a business or a cancellation policy but want you to pay, then yes, it's a pyramid scheme. All the money is going to someone at the top (hence the "pyramid"), and they are laughing all the way to the bank. A legit network marketing business would have all of these things and more accessible to anyone interested in hearing about their products.

So as you can see there are pros and cons to both business models, you just need to decide which one is best for you. I decided network marketing was the best option for me. My team prides themselves on helping people and educating them on how health can build wealth. What type of business model is best for you? It's never to late to find one. How to Copyright or TRADEMARK Your Business

I've been talking to some ambitious friends AGAIN! And this particular friend has an actual clothing line coming out. We were talking about how he would go about copyrighting his brand name and the logo and I realized that there might be more up-and-coming merchandisers/designers that don't know about this process. So, this week, I'm going to talk about how to copyright your logo, website, blog or business name. OR in using the actual term, TRADEMARK your "stuff". I used 'copyright' in the title because most people confuse the two. However, as I researched this subject I found out some interesting things...

Copyright is actually not the same as a trademark. According to the U.S. Copyright Office, a copyright provides protection for original works in the realms of music, poetry, movies, literature, etc. In fact, copyright exists as soon as the publication exists. It is just advised to register your publication with the U.S. Copyright Office for legal purposes. Some people also like to publish the copyright facts on their publications and make sure there is public record. Registration fees vary from $35 to $80. And it's more to renew, get copies or search copyright records. Believe it or not, people steal ideas so you want to make sure you're protected. And for a mere $35 at least, I'd say it's a good idea to make sure your writings are safe, LEGALLY.

Now to the good stuff. A trademark is what is used to protect patents, trademarks, and ideas. This is handled in the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). So a business name, logo or even business idea would fall under the trademark category. It is often confused with copyright but now you know the difference. The reason you would want to register for a trademark is to get legal use of a service mark (™,℠,®) for your word, phrase, symbol, or design.
The benefits of getting the service mark is to protect your name! Keep people from stealing your ideas. Just like with copyright, if you claim ownership, you can use the ™ and ℠ symbols on your business name or logo at any time. But owning the federal trademark registration obviously has it's benefits legally. Some of which include, being able to defend your logo in federal courts, being listed in the USPTO database, and the use of the ® symbol. YES! You MUST be registered with the USPTO to use that symbol on your logos, etc. You can't even use it if your application for registration is pending. So there are great benefits to registering your business name and logo.
Now, keep in mind, the USPTO has the right to deny your registration application. Especially if there's a similar logo. So, you need to research and make sure your business name and logo are UNIQUE and fit federal regulations. When filing an application for trademark registration (or to get a service mark) you must file one application per category(class) you the need the service mark for. FOR EXAMPLE, if you need a service mark for a t-shirt logo AND for the store marquee, you must submit two applications. Application fees vary from $275-$325, depending on the type of application you submit.
I know it sounds a bit complex and confusing but registering your business name and logo are so worth the protection. Especially if you're an owner that offers services/goods, merchandiser, designer, or inventor that's about to BLOW UP!  You can of course find out more and get an application at www.USPTO.gov.

Contractual Agreement

So, lately I've been talking to my friends who either own businesses that offer services or are thinking about it. And one of their biggest concerns is creating and having a contract. They've been asking questions like, "Why would I need one?" and "What would it say?" etc etc. So, I figured I would address this issue in this week's posting.

 Who needs a contract?:
First, let's discuss what type of small businesses would need a contract.  Any business that is providing services as an independent contractor like an event or wedding planner, buying or selling goods without an established distributor, distributing equipment, or selling or leasing  real estate. You also need a contract if you have partners, employees or even selling your business. Having a contract would first guarantee your services to your customer and THEN ensure that they pay you! Also, with business partners, things can somtimes get sticky so you want to make sure everything is divided properly, to avoid nasty break ups :).

What exacly is a contract?:
Now, what IS a contract, you ask? Well, The World English Dictionary defines a contract as the following: "to enter into an agreement with (a person, company, etc) to deliver (goods or services) or to do (something) on mutually agreed and binding terms, often in writing." In order for a contract to be valid, both parties need to sign and agree on terms listed in the contract.

What type of contracts are there?
There are two different types of contracts. First, there is an Oral Contract which is when people speak on the terms and conditions of the business transaction. Contrary to popular belief, these are legally binding contracts. The only thing is it is harder to prove who said what in a court of law.

The second type of contract is the Written Contract. This is the most common type of contract and obviously easier to prove in the court of law. Usually a contract is written to determine the job that needs to be done and what is going to happen after that job is done. If the people who are involved with the contract, do not keep up their part of the bargain, they can be sued.

What should it say?
Well, there are several contract-writing softwares out there that can help you with the actual wording of the contract but I will give you a general idea. Remember, you want to be very specific about what is said in the contract.  Unless you are a lawyer, you don't have to use legal terminology you just have to be clear on the expectations of both parties.

You want to make sure you have the following features in your contract:
~Date of contractual agreement and expiration of contract
~Name of everyone involved- i.e. customer, owner
~The services taking place for the contract- i.e. Company agrees to decorate Customer's house by 5/6/12.
~The payment amounts and DUE DATES- i.e. Initial Deposit, Amount Due after decorating is done
~Any interest that would take place if the payment is not made on due date
~Expiration dates for the contract
~Terms and conditions if contract is broken- i.e. If either party does not adhere to terms on contract legal action will take place
~Terms and conditions for someone to cancel or break contract before due date- i.e. If Customer breaks contract before job is done, the deposit is non-refundable. If Buyer breaks contract before job is done, the Customer will receive their deposit via mail.
~Signature of both parties

If you include all this in your contract, you should be fine! All grounds should be covered. Make sure you go through every aspect of the contract with your customer, answer and ASK all questions. Do not assume that they understand all the terms of the contract. Make sure you also review your state's laws on contractual agreements. They might have certain things that must be stated in the contract.

Lastly, at the end of the day, if you're still unsure about the validity of your contract or NEED that legal terminology included, then consult a lawyer. They will be able to help you ...for a small fee.

Embrace the Entrepeneur Within

Have you ever stopped and thought about how much money you make for your boss? Have you realized that by not working for yourself, you are working to make someone else rich? Every day you spend countless hours generating income for someone you probably don't know and for a business you definitely don't own. Unfortunately, in this economy no job is secure. So, where do you find the security? What does your future look like?
If you see more prosperity in your future, then you need to take control of your life now. And that means, working for yourself! You need to put yourself in a position to FIRE YOUR BOSS! Set your own hours and reap the benefits of your hard work.
My mom had an “Embrace the Entrepeneur Within” luncheon this weekend, to empower women in their lives and in business. We had 12 to 15 women there that all had positive comments about the illustrious speaker, Melissa Taft. She spoke about the steps we need to take to change our lives for the better. She talked about asking yourself questions like, are you going through life, KNOWING it's not how you'd like it and doing NOTHING about it or are you aware of your displeasure and doing all you can in your power to change your life??? She described how there are different stages to our development in life and wherever our competency level is, is how our life is developing now. So when are you going to take control of it????
So, today the question goes to you too! Are you living your life in complete denial, ignoring all the failures around you, saying, “Oh well, it’s life!”, or are you stepping out on faith, and taking actions to change your life? The bible says "...faith without deeds is dead" James 2:26. If you're wanting a change in your life, you should be praying for a change. You shoud be taking action and doing things like giving up habits you know aren’t good for you or following through with personal goals or doing all you can to get a financial promotion or even better, taking steps to FIRE YOUR BOSS!
Do something for yourself and your family. Make a move to impact your life. Embrace the entrpeneur within today! We can help you today! ==> CLICK HERE

The Top 5 Book Picks for Business Owners

I've been talking about this list in the last few blogs and it's finally here! These are my top 5 book picks to help you successfully build your business. Now, let's be honest. There are so many books about business practices out there, it's impossible to read them all. But in my opinion, if you read these books, you'll at least have a great start. The following reviews are their official reviews from Amazon.com.

1.
This is a must read for everyone! It chronicles Robert Kyosaki's two dads. His real dad who was the superintendent of education and his friends dad who was one of the wealthiest people in Hawaii and their opinions on financial strategies. This book offers sound advice on how to achieve financial success, get rich and stay rich.
2.
This book is from the author that also brought you "Purple Cow: Trasform Your Business by Being Remarkable", that shares how to stand out from others. In 'The Big Moo" Godin brings together 33 of the world's best business minds to answer one question: What does it really take to make your organization remarkable? The stories included in this book from the different business owners share real-life examples of building businesses. This book is an easy and fast read.
3.
How Remarkable Women Lead: The Breakthrough Model for Work and Life by Joanna Barsh and Susie Cranston
This great book discusses what drives successful women business owners. Including stories from the CEO's of Avon and Xerox (just to name a few). This book focuses on the ideas of Centered Leadership: meaning, framing, connecting, engaging, and energizing. A great read for women or MEN.

4.
Failing Forward: Turning Mistakes into Stepping Stones for Success by John C. Maxwell
In this book, John C. Maxwell "does it again", discussing how the clear difference between successful and unsuccessful people is their ability to recover from failures. This book goes through reasons people fail and how they can bounce back from them successfully. Mr. Maxwell includes the life stories of people like Mary Kay Ash, Greg Horn, Beck Weathers and many more. This book is an excellent source for learning to get over failures and move on to success.

5.
7 Habits of Highly Effective People: Powerful Lessons in Personal Change by Stephen Covey
This book first came out in 1990 and it was a success then. Stephen Covey discusses strategies for becoming effective in your personal life and in business. The first thing that needs to happen, however, is a "paradigm shift". Covey discusses this shift as a change in ones perception of the world. Once this takes place, you are ready to form the habits to be more effective. This is definitely not a quick and easy read. You should study this book throughly and take notes to master these habits. It may change your life!
.
Well there you have it! My 5 book picks. As I said earlier, these books would be a great start. However, you don't want to stop here. Jack Canfield (life coach, author of 'Chicken Soup for the Soul')  said it best, "The more books you read, the more likely one of them will have an answer to a question that could solve the major problems of your life.. make you wealthier, solve a health problem, whatever it might be." A smart business owner can learn a lot from reading just a few books a year. Well, the RIGHT books. Reading the right books can help you avoid making that one little mistake that can cause so many businesses to fail. As we were taught in school, reading increases your knowledge and intelligence. So, READ!

So I went to an event this weekend, and had a blessed time! It was so good that afterwards, I was ready to purchase some merchandise. Fortunately, I was first in line. Unfortunately, I didn't have small bills and they didn't take check. BUT they did take debit card. So I gave them my card to run, and it took FOREVER! They were using an Apple computer, but whatever program it was, it was not working fast enough. The line of 1 person grew to 6 in a matter of minutes. I even ended up having to enter my information myself! With all that said, all I could think about was if that was a different Apple product, the iPad, they wouldn't have this problem.

And it's so true. The iPad has so many benefits for an entrepeneur. Whether you need to take credit cards, keep customer information, or communicate with employess in other states or countries (with the new iPad2), the iPad is for you. Today I'm just going to share brief information about the apps, accessories and secrets about the iPad I enjoy.

One of the great things about the iPad is that you can download applications or apps to it, and make it do pretty much anything you want :0. There is an excellent app for people that take credit cards called Square. Square allows business owners to accept credit cards and it's FREE. All you have to do is download the app and then sign up for an account and BOOM. 3 days later, they send you a small card reader that connects to your iPad! It's wonderful. And definitely would've benefitted the merchants at the event :)

Another app that's great for keeping up with customer information is Bento. Not only can does it store customer information like phone numbers and order history, but it keeps you organized as well. You can manage your personal contacts and keep a schedule, you can also create "To-do" lists. It's a great application to keep you on track.

Oh don't worry, if you're a writer or trying to pitch some ideas for some dinero, or need flyers for you there's an app for you too. Pages allows you to create sales presentations and flyers for any and all of your business needs.  And alongside you need Keynote which helps create powerpoint presentations. Both apps go hand-in-hand. Although there's a minimal fee for each, it's definitely worth it.

One accessory you might enjoy are the bluetooth keyboard, which comes in handy for those big projects that have a lot of typing. Also a cool accessory is the camera connection kit which allows you to upload pictures from your camera onto your iPad.

One thing I have discovered about the iPad and love is that if you click the "home" button twice, you can see all of the windows you're working with and go back and forth. Another cool feature is that you can create a passcode to get into your iPad. Makes it kind of personal so only you can get in it!

Now, to find out about all the other cool features the iPad offers, you have to get one! The new iPad2 has just come out and the prices range from $499-$829. So consider the iPad for all your business needs. It is definitely worth it's purchase.

How to decide what type of business to start.

Do you have that entrepeneurial itch? Do you have a need to own your time? Do you have some talent or hobby you wish to share? Or maybe just interested in a career change? Well you've come to the right place. Deciding what type og business you want to start is the hard part. After that, we can help you build a successful business.

Evaluating your options:
So the first thing you need to do is evaluate your interests or hobbies. Is there something about your current or past jobs you like? Or something about a past job you really disliked? Do you have an interesting hobby that comes in handy here-and-there with your friends and family? Well these are the things to consider when you're deciding on a business to start. Make a list of things you're interested in AND things you dislike. The "dislike" list is to help you decide which businesses you DON'T like. Here's a sample of a list(keep in mind, some of the dislikes, might be your likes):

Likes
Using the computer
Working with people
Helping people feel good about themselves
Writing
Decorating
Helping people fix things
Cleaning

Dislikes
Dealing/speaking with people
Crunching numbers
Working with children
Giving speeches
Managing people

Consider your resources:
Now, after making that list, you need to decide what you can do with the likes and dislikes. Decide which of those is the most prominent and you're most interested in and GO WITH IT!! With some of your hobbies you can sell on eBay. With some of your like you can find franchises or Internet or Network Marketing businesses to satisfy those desires. Start researching your interests and interviewing some current business owners on their work life.

Research:
You need to educate yourself on the business you're interested in. You need to educate yourself on the industry you'll be working in. There are so many books that can get help you. Go to a local bookstore or library and just look for some of those business self-help or self-educate books.( A list of MUST-READS coming soon)

Put your twist on it:
While researching and creating a business plan, you need to think about how your business will be different from others. Now keep in mind, aspects of building your business successfully might be in place already and you will be able to connect with someone in the business that can help you build it. So, you don't want to re-invent the wheel if you don't have to. But you want to add your own little touch to certain aspects of your business. As you get more acquainted with the business and the people, you can develop these concepts quickly.

Stay MOTIVATED:
You want to make sure you stay inspired and most of all motivated to build your business in an organized, successful way. With my book, The MOTIVATOR, I can help you develop a business plan and ways to keep yourself organized and focused on your goals for your business. To be honest, starting a business is not the easiest thing to do, BUT it's so rewarding and you'll be able to set your own hours, and potentially be very successful. Just keep in mind you MUST work to see RESULTS. "Proverbs 12:11-he who works his land will have abundant food but he who chases fantasies lacks judgement."

LIFEYO!

So this past weekend, I went to L.A. to visit a friend. On Friday night while waiting in the airport, the flight was delayed 2 times due to the weather in L.A. So you could imagine the tension glooming in the gate as we were finally able to board. Unfortunately, I missed my opportunity to board earlier and ended up sitting on the last row of the plane. BUT luckily, I got my window seat AND didn't have anyone sitting directly next to me. But in the first seat of the row was a young man as frustrated as I was to be getting to L.A. so late. So we struck up a conversation and I discovered that he is Mike, one of the developers of a free website builder called LIFEYO. It was so cool to speak to him as a developer of a website that helps thousands of business owners. He was interested in hearing my opinions on other website builders and what small business owners like myself need in a website builder. The conversation definitely took our minds off the horrible turbulence we were experienceing due to the storm. But we landed safely and all is well.

Since then, I have checked out the website and it is actually pretty cool! First, it gives you the oppportunity to name your website and start building right away. They even have a demo/tutorial for people to view if they need help. The website builder is easy to use, providing 3 steps to take to complete your website. One of my favorite features is the ability to design and edit the website however you would like. On other sites, although you have a lot of say-so in design, you cannot put pictures, text, etc wherever you would like.

I plan on switching website providers soon. I like that you have more do-it-yourself options. I highly recommend LIFEYO as a place to build a website. Visit their site at http://www.lifeyo.com/. Comment below and let me know what you think.

So you own a business, now what?

So you've decided to take the plunge, live the American dream own a business! At this point you've either decided to start a direct marketing company, a network marketing company, invest in a franchise or have decided to just start your own. Well, CONGRATULATIONS!!! You have made the first step, which can be the easiest or hardest decision we make. But after you've paid the money, created the business plan, received the business starter kit with training and had a chance to sit down and let the smoke clear, you may start to think, NOW WHAT? How do you market yourself? How do you get products on the shelves? How do you get employees? Better yet, how do you get CUSTOMERS???

Well do not fear! This is a common reaction after starting a business. There are so many transitions you will go through as you try to build your business and make it a SUCCESS! The key is to continue to TRY! DON'T GIVE UP! Remember, 'There's no gain without pain'. You have to have those empty bank account, broke days. You have to have those, "what's an upline and where do I find it?" days. You have to have those empty store days (no customers/prospects) You have to have those clients that make EVERYTHING difficult. You have to have those constant budget revisions in order to appreciate the abundance of success you're about to receive!

So make sure you have a thought-provoking quote, favorite song, or something that motivates you EVERYTIME, so you can always refer to it when you have those 'give up' moments. Because 'Quitters never prosper'! (I know, a lot if idioms, but hey, they apply and sometimes we just need to be reminded)

How to build a successful website for...FREE

Well, hello! If you're just joining us, you'll see I've been writing blogs for a few months now( the one in 2010 was, "99 days to Win in 2010" ) and it's been a blast. It may come as a surprise to some, or confusion to others, but believe it! This is a part of the many hats that I wear. I LOVE helping others with business matters. My goal is to educate as many people as I can on all business details. Whether you own a Subway or a Network Marketing Coin Business, I can help! So click FOLLOW to the right and follow my blog for 2011, "Get Your Blessin' in 2011: Business Ideas & Advice" (http://www.businessadvice2011.blogspot.com/).

So today's topic was touched on last year but I'm going there again. For a few weeks we will be focusing on building a proper and working business plan, website and/or blog, and marketing strategies. So let's start with the website(my book on building a business plan is coming out in February! Keep your eyes and ears open for it!).
Anyhow, I was thinking about all the action I get from my site, and wanted to talk to you about how to build a successful website, for....(wait for it...) FREE! There are several resources for this and if you know anymore, follow my blog and comment below with your suggestions. But lets start with wix.com. I'm not too familiar with this site, but it allows a lot of video and flash player options. Tis really cool for a unique website, trying to reach a more chic crowd.

Another resource that I like is...Weebly.com! I found Weebly to be very easy to use. You don't even need a domain name they can give one to you and you're set. I have a hard time sitting for a long time trying to figure things out and with Weebly I didn't have any formulas to decode or vast instructions to read. Weebly has numerous templates you can use that will fit any business you are marketing. You can also monetize your site (that means MAKE MONEY!). Weebly has Google Adsense AND an affiliate program you can all use for....(here it is again)FREE!

For a very minimal monthly fee you can receive the following features: audio player, password protection, up to 10 websites, more MB space and MORE!

I don't need those features CURRENTLY, but I look forward to upgrading my membership. I highly suggest Weebly.com  as a tool to create your website! It's fun, it's simple and it's....(drum roll please) FREE! Check it out! Talk to you soon!
Tamara

P.S. If you are not sure of what type of business you want to market or build a website for, check out my website or email me at tgarrison11@gmail.com. I can help you find a business you would be interested in starting (trust me, I have my ways)! If you have any questions about a domain name, or any of these resources, email me at tgarrison11@gmail.com. I'll be happy to answer your questions.

Excuses, excuses...

So, we're almost to the end of January. How are you doing with your "New Year Resolutions"? LOL at this time HOPEFULLY you have remained true to your resolutions. But USUALLY we HAVEN'T LOL. And hey, as bad as that might sound, it's TRUE. Some of us have not even gone a few weeks without breaking our New Year Resolutions. And that's ok. That's the reason why we're human, right? The good news is we can go back and re-set everything. We have the power to go back, review our solutions and change them.

So what are you re-setting? Is there anything you need to go back and review and change? Do you need to review and change a resolution you had for your business? Do you need to go back and even SET some resolutions for your business? Well go ahead and do that and move on. Good luck.
